Onigiri with Tuna Mayo

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Japanese rice (hot) 2 cups
Sushi vinegar 1 teaspoon
Nori flakes 1 teaspoon
Canned tuna (drained) 1 can
Mayonnaise 2 tablespoons
Nori sheets 4 sheets

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Rice Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the hot Japanese rice, sushi vinegar, and nori flakes. Gently mix until well incorporated, ensuring that the rice remains fluffy.

  2. Make the Tuna Filling: In a separate bowl, combine the drained tuna and mayonnaise. Mix thoroughly until the tuna is well-coated and creamy.

  3. Shape the Onigiri: Using an onigiri mold, fill it halfway with the rice mixture, then create a well in the center for the tuna filling. Spoon the tuna mixture into the well and cover with additional rice. Press firmly to shape. If you don’t have a mold, you can form the onigiri by hand: wrap the rice in plastic wrap and mold it into a triangle shape.

  4. Wrap with Nori: Take a sheet of nori and wrap it around the onigiri, leaving part of the rice exposed. For a more traditional presentation, use larger nori sheets to cover the entire surface of the rice. If using smaller sheets, don’t worry; your onigiri will still be delightful!

Enjoy your homemade Onigiri with Tuna Mayo, perfect for a quick snack or a delightful addition to your lunch!
