Yield: 1 brain

Description:
For those fortunate enough to possess brain-shaped molds for gelatin, this recipe promises a delightfully eerie yet delicious treat. Perfect for themed parties or just to surprise your guests, this Brain Gelatin is sure to be a hit. Time does not include refrigeration.

Ingredients:

  • 2 packets gelatin
  • 1 3/4 cups boiling water
  • 3/4 cup cold water
  • 9 tablespoons fat-free evaporated milk
  • 15 drops red food coloring
  • 15 drops blue food coloring
  • 15 drops green food coloring

Instructions:

  1. Before each use, wash the brain mold with warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge to ensure cleanliness.
  2. Spray or smear the inside of the mold with a small amount of vegetable oil, then wipe out the excess to prevent sticking.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the gelatin mix with the boiling water. Stir for approximately two minutes or until the mix is completely dissolved.
  4. Add the cold water to the gelatin mixture and stir until well combined.
  5. Stir in the fat-free evaporated milk until evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  6. Add drops of red, blue, and green food coloring until the desired pinkish-gray hue is achieved. Stir well to evenly distribute the coloring.
  7. Pour the gelatin mixture into the brain mold, leaving about 1/4 inch of space from the top to allow for expansion.
  8. Place the brain mold in a shallow bowl to ensure it sits level in the refrigerator.
  9. Refrigerate the brain gelatin overnight or for at least 4-6 hours until set.
  10. To remove the brain from the mold, gently shake the mold until the gelatin loosens.
  11. Place a flat plate upside down over the open side of the mold, then flip the mold and plate together.
  12. Carefully lift the mold off the plate, leaving the brain-shaped gelatin intact.
