Crispy Black Pepper Beef

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams of beef, sliced thinly
  • 1 stalk green onion, diagonally sliced
  • 3 red chilies, diagonally sliced
  • 1 large onion, diced thickly
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper powder
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch, mixed with a little water to make a slurry
  • 3 tablespoons kecap manis (sweet soy sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • All-purpose flour, for coating
  • 1 egg, beaten (for coating the beef)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying and sautéing
  • Sugar and salt, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef:
    Begin by slicing the beef into thin strips. Coat the beef slices in all-purpose flour, then dip them into the beaten egg, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Fry the coated beef in hot vegetable oil until golden brown and crispy. Once cooked, remove from oil and set aside.

  2. Sauté the Aromatics:
    In a large pan or wok, heat a little vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the crushed garlic and diced onion, sautéing until fragrant and the onion becomes translucent.

  3. Cook the Vegetables:
    Add the julienned carrot and sliced red chilies to the pan. Stir-fry for about a minute until the vegetables start to soften but remain crisp.

  4. Combine and Flavor:
    Add the crispy beef back into the pan. Sprinkle in the black pepper powder and stir well to coat the beef evenly. Pour in the kecap manis and oyster sauce, mixing thoroughly.

  5. Thicken the Sauce:
    Stir in the cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce. Add the green onions, and season with salt and sugar to taste. Continue to cook until the sauce has thickened and the flavors are well combined.

  6. Serve:
    Once everything is well-mixed and the beef is coated with the sauce, remove from heat. Serve hot with steamed rice or as a delicious main dish in your meal.
