Perkedel Tahu: Indonesian Tofu Patties

Ingredients:

  • 4 blocks of firm tofu
  • 2 stalks green onions, finely sliced
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Spices:
    • 2 cloves garlic
    • 2 shallots
    • 7 black peppercorns
    • A pinch of coriander seeds
    • Salt to taste
    • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
    • Flavor enhancer (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Begin by washing the tofu thoroughly, then crumble it into coarse pieces. Mix in the finely sliced green onions and ensure the ingredients are well combined.

  2. In a separate bowl, finely grind the garlic, shallots, coriander seeds, black peppercorns, and salt. Incorporate this spice mixture into the tofu mixture, stirring well. Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning with a flavor enhancer if desired, making sure everything is evenly mixed.

  3. Pour the beaten egg into the tofu mixture and stir until fully combined. Shape the mixture into flat, round patties.

  4. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, fry the patties until golden brown and crispy on both sides.

  5. Serve the Perkedel Tahu hot with steamed rice and sambal for a delicious Indonesian treat. Enjoy!

Note: These crispy tofu patties are especially delightful when enjoyed with a side of warm rice and a spicy sambal.
