Instructions
- 
Cook the Moong Dal 
 To begin, rinse the yellow moong dal thoroughly. In a pressure cooker, add the dal, 1 cup of water, and turmeric powder. Close the lid and cook for 2 whistles, then allow the pressure to release naturally.Related Articles

Prepare the Dal 
 Once the pressure has released, open the cooker and add 1-1/2 cups of water and salt as per your taste. Turn on the heat and bring the dal to a gentle boil.

Temper the Dal 
 While the dal is cooking, heat ghee or oil in a small tempering pan. Once the ghee is hot, add cumin seeds and asafoetida. Let the cumin seeds splutter. Then, add the chopped mint leaves and red chili powder. Sauté for a couple of minutes until the mint releases its fragrance.

Combine and Simmer 
 Pour the tempering (tadka) into the boiling dal and stir well to combine. Let the dal cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to infuse.
