Bihun Goreng with Beef Meatballs

Ingredients:

  • 2 packs of bihun (rice vermicelli)
  • 12 beef meatballs (bakso sapi)
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 3 shallots
  • Red chili peppers (to taste)
  • Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • Ladaku seasoning (or a suitable seasoning mix)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 packet beef-flavored Royco seasoning
  • Chopped green onions (daun bawang)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Vermicelli:

    • Soak the bihun in a bowl of hot water until it softens. Drain and set aside.
  2. Make the Spice Paste:

    • In a mortar and pestle or food processor, grind the garlic and shallots into a smooth paste.
  3. Cook the Aromatics:

    • Heat a generous amount of oil in a large pan or wok over medium heat. Add the garlic and shallot paste, cooking until fragrant.
  4. Add Vegetables and Meatballs:

    • Slice the red chili peppers to your desired level of spiciness and add them to the pan. Stir in the chopped green onions and beef meatballs. Sauté for a few minutes until the meatballs are cooked through.
  5. Combine with Vermicelli:

    • Add the soaked bihun to the pan. Stir-fry gently to combine everything well.
  6. Season the Dish:

    • Pour in the sweet soy sauce, and sprinkle with salt, sugar, and beef-flavored Royco seasoning. Stir thoroughly to ensure all the ingredients are evenly coated with the seasoning.
  7. Taste and Adjust:

    • Give the bihun a taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. If needed, add a bit more soy sauce or salt according to your preference.
  8. Serve:

    • Transfer the bihun goreng to a serving dish. Garnish with extra chopped green onions if desired.
