Eggs 2
Buttermilk 2 cups
Cake flour 2 cups
Salt 1 tsp
Vanilla 2 tsp
Baking soda 1 tsp
Vinegar 1 tbsp
Flour 1 tbsp
Milk 1 cup
Sugar 3 cups
Vanilla 1 tsp
Butter 1 cup

Instructions:

  1. Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs.

    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the shortening, sugar, and eggs. Using a hand or stand mixer, beat until creamy and well combined.
  2. Make a paste of food coloring and cocoa.

    • In a small bowl, mix together the food coloring and cocoa powder until it forms a smooth paste.
  3. Add the cocoa paste to the creamed mixture.

    • Gradually add the cocoa paste to the creamed mixture and mix until fully incorporated.
  4. Alternate adding buttermilk with flour and salt.

    • Gradually add the buttermilk to the batter, alternating with the cake flour and salt. Mix until smooth after each addition.
  5. Incorporate vanilla into the batter.

    • Stir in the vanilla extract until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  6. Combine baking soda with vinegar and blend into the batter.

    • In a small bowl, mix together the baking soda and vinegar. Add this mixture to the batter and gently fold until well combined.
  7. Pour batter into greased and floured cake pans.

  9. Prepare the frosting.

    • In a saucepan, slowly add milk to flour, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Cook over medium heat until the mixture becomes very thick, then remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
  10. Cream sugar, butter, and vanilla until fluffy.

    • In a separate mixing bowl, cream together the sugar, butter, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  11. Combine the cooked flour mixture with the creamed sugar mixture.

    • Gradually add the cooled cooked flour mixture to the creamed sugar mixture and beat on high speed until the frosting is very fluffy.
  12. Assemble the cake.

  13. Serve and enjoy!

    • Slice the cake and serve it to your delighted guests. This cake not only looks exquisite but tastes divine, reminiscent of fluffy whipped cream with every bite.

Tips:

  • For a deeper red color, use gel food coloring instead of liquid.
  • Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature before beginning the recipe for optimal results.
  • Be careful not to overmix the batter, as this can result in a dense cake texture.
  • Allow the cake layers to cool completely before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Indulge in the luxurious flavor and texture of this Waldorf-Astoria Red Velvet Cake, a dessert that’s sure to impress and satisfy any sweet tooth craving!
