Description:

A delightful brunch sandwich perfect for the holidays, this Holly Ham and Cheese Sandwich Wreath is sure to satisfy your guests and family while they eagerly await your holiday dinner. With layers of savory deli ham and cheddar cheese rolled in dough, topped with festive holly leaves and berries, this wreath brings both flavor and festive charm to your table.

Ingredients:

  • 2 rolls refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
  • 1 package deli ham slices
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • Spicy mustard

Instructions:

  1. Preparation:

    • Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
    • Unroll the crescent dough and place it side by side on a baking sheet with the smaller sides touching.
    • Pinch the edges to seal them.
    • Cut a 2-inch strip from one short side of the dough and set it aside.
    • Brush the remaining dough with spicy mustard, leaving about 1/2 inch of the edges untouched.
  2. Assembling the Wreath:

    • Layer the deli ham slices and shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the mustard-brushed dough.
    • Roll up the dough jelly-roll style, starting from one of the longer sides.
    • Pinch the seam to seal it.
    • Place the rolled dough seam side down on an ungreased cookie sheet or pizza pan, shaping it into a circle.
    • Pinch the ends of the circle to seal them.
    • Beat one egg yolk and brush it over the surface of the dough.
  3. Baking:

    • Bake the wreath in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until it turns golden brown.
  4. Preparing the Glaze:

    • While the wreath is baking, prepare the glaze by beating the remaining egg yolk.
    • Divide the beaten egg yolk into two small dishes or custard cups.
    • Tint one portion of the egg yolk green and the other portion red using food coloring.
  5. Decorating the Wreath:

    • On a floured surface, roll out the reserved dough to about 1/8 inch thickness.
    • Use a small cookie cutter or a paring knife to cut out 9 holly leaves, each about 2 inches long.
    • Apply the green-tinted egg yolk glaze to the leaves.
    • Shape the remaining dough into 9 small balls to resemble holly berries.
    • Brush the berries with the red-tinted egg yolk glaze.
  6. Final Touches:

    • Once the wreath has baked for 30 minutes, remove it from the oven.
    • Arrange the holly leaves and berries in groups of three on the hot dough.
    • Return the wreath to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until it achieves a golden brown color.
