Chicago Style Deep-Dish Pizza 🍕

Description:

An easy-to-fix deep-dish pizza cooked in a cast-iron skillet. To ensure the pizza doesn’t stick, a quick shot of non-stick spray does the trick. For the pizza sauce, I highly recommend trying out Steve’s Recipe #8497; trust me, you won’t miss the refrigerated store-bought dough once you’ve tried this homemade delight!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 pound mild Italian sausage
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tablespoon basil
  • 1 tablespoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F.

  2. Prepare your ingredients by removing the skins from the sausage and cooking it in a heavy skillet, crumbling it as you cook.

  3. Drain the cooked sausage on a plate covered with paper towels to remove excess fat.

  4. Remove the fat from the skillet.

  5. Sauté the sweet peppers and onion in olive oil in the same skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  6. Add the garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

  7. Incorporate the pepperoni, basil, oregano, and black pepper into the skillet mixture, and cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  8. Unroll the pizza dough and place it in a well-seasoned 10-inch cast-iron skillet. You may need to stretch it slightly so that the dough comes up about 1 inch on the sides.

  9. Spread 2 tablespoons of the pizza sauce evenly over the dough.

  10. Layer half of the vegetable filling on top of the sauce, followed by half of the cooked sausage.

  11. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of Parmesan cheese and dot with 3 tablespoons of sauce.

  12. Top with half of the shredded mozzarella cheese.

  13. Repeat the layering process with the remaining ingredients.

  14. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden brown.
