Breakfast is our favorite meal, so on the weekends, I try to do something a little special. This Egg and Bacon Casserole is one we especially like. It’s hearty, flavorful, and perfect for a cozy breakfast or brunch gathering with friends and family.
Ingredients:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 4 cups croutons
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 cups milk
- 8 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1 cup cooked bacon, crumbled
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Prepare Baking Dish: Place the butter in an 11x7x1.5-inch baking dish.
- Melt Butter: Microwave the baking dish until the butter is melted, tilting to coat the bottom of the dish evenly.
- Layer Ingredients: Spread the croutons over the melted butter in the baking dish. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the croutons, creating a delicious base for the casserole.
- Prepare Egg Mixture: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and dry mustard until well combined.
- Pour Mixture: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the cheese and croutons in the baking dish.
- Add Bacon: Sprinkle the crumbled bacon over the top of the egg mixture, distributing it evenly across the surface of the casserole.
- Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
- Rest: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it stand at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together and makes for easier slicing and serving.
