Recipe Instructions:
1. Sauce:
- Heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add mustard seeds and fenugreek. Let them brown.
- Add chopped onion and fry until transparent.
- Reduce heat and add garlic. Fry on very low heat for about 5 minutes, ensuring not to burn.
- Add chili powder and curry powder, stir, and cook for about 1 minute.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook on high heat for another 2 minutes.
- Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and tomato ketchup.
- Add a soup cube and adjust salt to taste.
- Sprinkle sugar on top.
- Cover and let it simmer on low heat until the meatballs are ready.
2. Meatballs:
- In a large bowl, combine beef mince, ground pork, chopped garlic, chopped onion, parsley, eggs, curry powder, chili powder, mustard, fenugreek seeds, salt, and black pepper.
- Squeeze milk out of the bread slice and mix with the meat mixture.
- Shape the mixture into lime-sized balls.
- In a non-stick frying pan, fry the meatballs on low heat until medium brown on all sides.
- Using a slotted spoon, transfer the meatballs into the sauce mixture.
- Cover and let it simmer for about 30 minutes (the longer, the better).
3. Serving Suggestions:
- Serve the spicy meatballs over steamed rice for a hearty meal.
- For a twist, serve them on a bed of spaghetti with a slightly thinner sauce.
- To adjust the sauce for spaghetti, add 1 cup of boiling water to the sauce just after adding the meatballs.
- Check for seasoning, cover, and let it simmer for another 30 minutes.
Enjoy the explosion of flavors in every bite of these Sri Lankan-inspired spicy meatballs! Perfect for a weeknight dinner that’s sure to impress. ๐ถ๐
