Recipe: Candy Canes

Description:
Don’t limit yourself to candy canes and peppermint. You can use any flavoring and food coloring and make any kind of cookie. You are only limited by your imagination.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- Red food coloring
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar together until fluffy.
- Add egg, vanilla extract, and salt, then beat well until fully combined.
- Gradually add flour and beat until thoroughly mixed.
- Divide the dough in half.
- Add red food coloring to one half of the dough.
- Wrap each half of the dough separately in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C).
- For each candy cane, take a teaspoon of plain dough and a teaspoon of red dough, shaping each into 4-inch long ropes on a floured surface.
- Place the ropes side by side and twist them together.
- Pinch the ends of each twist to seal them.
- Form the twisted ropes into candy cane shapes and place them 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake the candy canes for 8-10 minutes, until lightly golden.
- Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet.
- Once cooled, brush on icing for extra sweetness and decoration.
