Super Bowl Nachos Recipe

Description:

My favorite team will probably not be in the Super Bowl, but we’ll enjoy these nachos nonetheless. The garnishes listed are just a suggestion; use your imagination! Obviously, beer is the best beverage to go along with this treat!

Ingredients:

  • 8 cups tortilla chips
  • 1/2 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 lb chorizo sausage
  • 1 onion
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 can whole green chilies
  • 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup mild cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2-3 avocados
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup pitted ripe olives
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Meat Mixture:

    • Crumble beef and sausage into a wide frying pan over medium-high heat.
    • Add onion and cook, stirring to break up meat, until meat is lightly browned.
    • Spoon off excess fat; season to taste with salt and hot pepper seasoning.
  2. Layer and Bake:

    • Spread beans in a shallow 10×15-inch baking pan or oven-proof dish.
    • Top evenly with the cooked meat mixture.
    • Sprinkle with whole green chilies and shredded cheeses.
    • Drizzle with taco sauce.
    • Bake, uncovered, in a preheated 400ยฐF (200ยฐC) oven for 20-25 minutes or until very hot throughout.
  3. Prepare Garnishes:

    • Meanwhile, prepare garnishes of your choice, such as chopping avocados, green onions, olives, and cilantro.
  4. Assemble and Serve:

    • Remove the pan from the oven and quickly garnish the hot nachos, mounding avocado and sour cream in the center, and adding other garnishes as desired.
    • Quickly tuck tortilla chips around the edges of the bean mixture.
    • Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.
  5. Keep Warm (Optional):

    • If desired, keep the platter of nachos hot on an electric warming tray to maintain their delicious warmth.
