Have your chili 3, 4, or 5 ways, Cincinnati style. This hearty and flavorful dish is also great on hot dogs, smothered with shredded cheese.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 lbs lean ground beef
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 6 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp mild chili powder
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 (14.5 oz) cans diced tomatoes
  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 8 oz spaghetti
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 (15 oz) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed

Instructions:

  1. Brown Ground Beef: In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with chopped onions and celery until cooked through. Drain off any excess fat.

  2. Prepare Crock Pot: Place the browned beef mixture into the crock pot. Add minced garlic, chili powder, paprika, basil, oregano, thyme, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, cumin, red pepper flakes, allspice, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.

  3. Add Tomatoes and Sauce: Pour in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and water. Stir again until all ingredients are evenly distributed.

  4. Cook in Crock Pot: Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 7-9 hours, or on high for 3 1/2-4 1/2 hours. Stirring during the last part of cooking if using the high setting.

  5. Cook Spaghetti: About 30 minutes before the chili is done, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente.

  6. Serve: To have chili 3-ways, serve it with spaghetti, chili, and cheese. For chili 4-ways, add chopped onions on top. And for spaghetti 5-ways, include kidney beans along with the other toppings.

  7. Optional: Douse your chili liberally with hot sauce, if desired, for an extra kick.
