🕒 Total Time: Not specified
🥖 Yield: 1 1/2 lb loaf
Ingredients:
- 1 cup fresh basil 🌿
- 2 teaspoons salt 🧂
- 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar 🍬
- 2 cups all-purpose flour 🌾
- 3 cloves garlic, minced 🧄
- 2 tablespoons olive oil 🫒
- 1 cup milk 🥛
Directions:
-
Prepare the Ingredients:
- Rinse the fresh basil leaves under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- Mince the garlic cloves finely.
-
Mix the Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, minced garlic, and chopped basil leaves.
- Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the olive oil and milk.
-
Knead the Dough:
- Use a wooden spoon or your hands to mix the ingredients until a rough dough forms.
- Once the dough comes together, turn it out onto a floured surface.
-
Knead and Rise:
- Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
-
Shape the Bread:
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air bubbles.
- Shape the dough into a loaf and place it into a greased loaf pan.
-
Second Rise:
- Cover the loaf with a kitchen towel and let it rise for an additional 30-45 minutes, or until it has doubled in size again.
-
Preheat the Oven:
- While the bread is rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Bake the Bread:
- Once the bread has finished its second rise, remove the towel and place the loaf pan in the preheated oven.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown on top and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
-
Cool and Serve:
- Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes.
- Transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
