Celery and Onion Mashed Potatoes 🥔🧅
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
Servings: 4
Description:
Elevate the classic mashed potatoes with a delightful twist of sautéed celery and onions. This recipe offers a rustic charm, with the option to achieve either a coarse or fine texture based on your preference. While I prefer the chunkier texture attained by mashing the potatoes with a fork, you can opt for a smoother consistency by passing them through a potato ricer before incorporating the savory celery and onions.
Ingredients:
- 4 potatoes
- 2 celery ribs
- 1/2 onion
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- Salt, to taste
- Pepper, to taste
Instructions:
Step | Description |
---|---|
1 | Prepare Ingredients: Gather all the ingredients. Peel and dice the potatoes into evenly sized pieces. Chop the celery ribs and onions finely. |
2 | Sauté Vegetables: Heat a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of butter, then add the chopped celery and onions. Sauté until the vegetables turn golden brown, which should take about 5 minutes. Once done, remove the sautéed vegetables from the pan and set them aside. |
3 | Cook Potatoes: In the same saucepan, add the diced potatoes and just enough water to cover them. Season generously with salt. Bring the water to a boil, then cover the pan, reduce the heat to medium-low, and cook until the potatoes are tender, approximately 15 minutes. |
4 | Drain Potatoes: Once the potatoes are tender, drain them thoroughly and return the pan to medium heat. |
5 | Combine Ingredients: Stir in the cooked celery and onions, along with 3 tablespoons of butter and the milk. |
6 | Mash Potatoes: Using a potato masher or fork, mash the potatoes to your desired consistency. For a smoother texture, mash them more thoroughly. |
7 | Season to Taste: Add salt and pepper to taste, adjusting the seasoning as needed. |
8 | Serve: Serve the mashed potatoes immediately while they’re still warm, or keep them warm over low heat with the lid slightly opened. Enjoy the comforting flavors of this unique twist on a classic dish! |
