Ingredients:
- 12 ounces bulk pork sausage
- 1/2 onion, diced
- 1/4 cup celery, diced
- 1/4 cup green pepper, diced
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese
- 2 green onion tops, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 egg
- 1 can refrigerated crescent dough
Instructions:
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Prepare the Filling:
- In a skillet, cook the pork sausage, diced onion, celery, green pepper, and minced garlic until the sausage is no longer pink and the vegetables are tender. Drain any excess grease.
- Add the cream cheese, chopped green onion tops, and fresh parsley to the skillet. Cook and stir over low heat until the cheese is melted and the ingredients are well combined. Set aside.
-
Assemble the Braid:
- On a greased baking sheet, unroll the crescent dough and press the perforations together to form a single sheet.
- Roll the dough into a 12×10 inch rectangle.
- Spoon the sausage and vegetable mixture onto the dough, leaving a border of about 3 inches on the sides and 1 inch on the ends.
- With a sharp knife, cut 3/4-inch wide strips along each long side of the dough.
- Starting at one end, fold the strips of dough over the filling at an angle, alternating sides to create a braided pattern.
-
Bake:
- In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it over the surface of the dough.
- Bake the braid in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is heated through.
-
Serve and Enjoy:
- Once baked, remove the Sausage Brunch Braid from the oven and let it cool slightly before slicing.
- Serve warm, alongside fresh fruit for a complete and satisfying meal.
Recipe Notes:
- This recipe can easily be customized to suit your preferences. Feel free to add extra veggies or swap out the sausage for a different protein option.
