Ingredients:

  • 2 onions
  • 1 garlic cloves
  • 3/4 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 can (14 oz) chopped tomatoes
  • 2 cans (14 oz each) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tbsp raisins
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp clove
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup green olives, sliced
  • Cooked white rice, for serving

Instructions:

Step Description
1 Heat oil in a dutch oven over medium heat. Add onions and garlic, and cook until softened and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
2 Add ground beef and ground pork to the pot. Cook until browned, breaking up any large lumps with a spoon. Once cooked, drain excess fat from the pot.
3 Stir in the black beans, beef broth, chopped tomatoes, raisins, chili powder, cinnamon, cumin, allspice, clove, and salt. Bring the mixture to a boil.
4 Reduce the heat to low and let the chili simmer, partially covered, for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Stir occasionally.
5 After 30 minutes, uncover the pot and continue to simmer the chili for an additional 30 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.
6 Finally, add the sliced green olives to the chili and let it cook for an additional 5 minutes to warm through.
7 Serve the Havana Chili hot over cooked white rice, garnishing with additional sliced green olives if desired. Enjoy your taste of the Caribbean!
