Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine 1 cup flour, sugar, undissolved yeast, and salt.
- Heat water, milk, and butter until very warm (120 to 130 degrees F).
- Gradually add to dry ingredients, along with the eggs.
- Beat for 2 minutes at medium speed of an electric mixer, scraping the bowl occasionally.
- Stir in the remaining flour to make a stiff batter.
- Spread the batter evenly into a greased 9-inch square baking pan.
- Arrange apple slices evenly over the batter.
- For the topping: Combine all ingredients; mix until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the apples.
- Cover and let rise in a warm, draft-free place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until done.
- Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes.
- Remove the cake from the pan and cool it on a wire rack.
