Nutty Cherry Pie Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cans of cherry pie filling
- 1 can of crushed pineapple
- 1 cup of sugar
- 3/4 cup of cornstarch
- 2 cups of walnuts
Instructions:
- Let the pie shells come to room temperature.
- Fit them into an 8×8 baking pan, adjusting as needed to cover the base and sides evenly.
- Bake the shells at 375°F for approximately 15 minutes or until they are golden and crisp.
- While the shells bake, prepare the filling. In a saucepan, combine the cherry pie filling, crushed pineapple, sugar, cornstarch, and optional food coloring.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring constantly to prevent any lumps from forming.
- Once it reaches a boil, continue to cook and stir for an additional 2 minutes to thicken the filling.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the filling to cool slightly.
- Fold in the chopped walnuts until they are evenly distributed throughout the filling.
- Once the pie shells have cooled completely, pour the prepared filling into the crust, spreading it out evenly.
- Transfer the pie to the refrigerator to chill for at least a couple of hours before serving, allowing the flavors to meld together and the filling to set.
