Spicy Tuna Floss Stuffed Cireng

Cireng, a delightful Indonesian snack, offers a crispy exterior filled with savory goodness. In this recipe, we’ll create Cireng isi tongkol suwir pedas, featuring spicy tuna floss as the filling, making for a delectable treat perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

For the Cireng Dough:

  • 250 grams tapioca flour (also known as tapioca starch)
  • 20 grams all-purpose flour
  • 20 grams powdered coconut milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated
  • Salt, to taste
  • Hot water, as needed

For the Filling:

  • Spicy tuna floss (or substitute with beef or chicken floss, if desired)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Water:
Begin by boiling an adequate amount of water. This will be used to hydrate the dough.

  2. Mix the Dough:
In a mixing bowl, combine 250 grams of tapioca flour, 20 grams of all-purpose flour, 20 grams of powdered coconut milk, the grated garlic, and salt to taste. Mix these dry ingredients thoroughly until well incorporated.

  3. Add Hot Water:
Gradually add the boiling water to the dry mixture, a little at a time, stirring with a spoon to combine. The goal is to achieve a workable dough. Once the mixture cools slightly, knead it with your hands until it reaches a smooth, pliable consistency.

  4. Roll Out the Dough:
On a clean surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch. Ensure the surface is lightly dusted with tapioca flour to prevent sticking.

  5. Add the Filling:
Cut the rolled dough into desired shapes (circles or squares), place a spoonful of spicy tuna floss in the center of each piece, and fold it over to encase the filling. Seal the edges securely by pressing them together.

  6. Fry the Cireng:
Heat a generous amount of oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the stuffed cireng to the pan, frying until they turn golden brown and crispy. This usually takes about 3-5 minutes per side.

  7. Drain and Serve:
Once cooked, remove the cireng from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot, enjoying them as a snack or appetizer.

Variations:

Feel free to experiment with different fillings! Other delicious options include sausages, meatballs, or shredded chicken. For a spicy twist, incorporate chili flakes into the filling.
