Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Yield: Makes 5 servings

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Milk (for brushing)
  • Sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine diced apples, chopped walnuts, brown sugar, raisins, lemon zest, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Pastry:

    • Roll out the pastry dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness.
  3. Cut and Fill:

    • Using a round cutter (approximately 5 inches in diameter), cut the pastry into circles.
    • Spoon about 1/4 cup of the apple filling into the center of each pastry circle.
  4. Assemble the Bundles:

    • Moisten the edges of the pastry circles with water.
    • Fold the pastry over the filling to create a half-moon shape and press the edges firmly with a fork to seal.
  5. Bake:

    • Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
    • Place the prepared apple bundles on a greased baking sheet.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.
  6. Finish Baking:

    • Reduce the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) and continue baking for an additional 10 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crisp.
  7. Final Touch:

    • Remove the apple bundles from the oven.
    • Brush each bundle with a little milk and sprinkle with sugar.
    • Return the bundles to the oven for 5 more minutes to allow the sugar to melt and caramelize slightly.
  8. Serve:

    • Once baked and slightly cooled, serve the apple bundles warm as a delightful dessert or treat.

Enjoy these delicious Apple Bundles, filled with sweet apples, crunchy walnuts, and warm cinnamon flavors, perfect for any occasion!
