Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 2 1/4 cups light brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter (additional, softened)
  • 1 cup peanut butter

For the Frosting:

  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 2 1/4 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk (plus more if needed)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Garnish:

  • Chopped honey roasted peanuts (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This step ensures that your cake bakes evenly and rises perfectly.

2. Prepare the Cake Batter:

In a large mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup softened butter and 2 1/4 cups light brown sugar. Beat them together until the mixture is creamy and smooth.

Gradually add 3 large eggs, beating well after each addition. Next, mix in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 cup peanut butter. Beat until fully incorporated and smooth.

In a separate bowl, sift together 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Add this dry mixture to the creamed butter mixture in batches, alternating with 1 cup sour cream. Begin and end with the flour mixture. Beat until just combined.

Gradually add 1/2 cup water and mix until the batter is smooth and well combined.

3. Bake the Cake:

Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans. Divide the batter evenly between the pans.

Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The cake should be firm and golden brown.

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove them from the pans and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

4. Prepare the Frosting:

In a large mixing bowl, beat together 1 cup softened butter and 1 cup peanut butter until smooth and creamy.

Gradually add 2 1/4 cups confectioners’ sugar, 1/4 cup milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Continue beating until the frosting is light and fluffy. If needed, adjust the consistency by adding more milk, 1 teaspoon at a time, until you reach the desired texture.

5. Assemble the Cake:

Place one layer of the cooled cake on a cake plate. Spread a generous layer of peanut butter frosting on top of this layer.

Add the second cake layer on top. Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining peanut butter frosting.

For an extra touch, sprinkle chopped honey roasted peanuts on top of the cake or gently press them onto the sides.

6. Serve and Enjoy:

Your Decadent Peanut Chocolate Cake is now ready to be served! Slice and enjoy the rich flavors of chocolate and peanut butter with every bite. This cake is perfect for any special occasion or simply as a treat to enjoy with friends and family.

  • For Best Results: Avoid using fat-reduced or generic brands of butter and peanut butter, as these can affect the texture and richness of the cake.
