Tengiri Pepes Special Asam Pedas Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium tengiri fish (mackerel), cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 5 shallots, peeled
  • 3 tomatoes, chopped
  • Red chili peppers or bird’s eye chilies, to taste
  • 2 pieces of ginger, peeled
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 2-3 kaffir lime leaves or lime leaves (if available)
  • 2 pieces of turmeric, peeled

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Spice Paste:

    • In a food processor or mortar and pestle, grind the garlic, shallots, chili peppers, kaffir lime leaves, ginger, turmeric, ground coriander, and salt until smooth.
  2. Prepare the Fish:

    • Rub the spice paste all over the pieces of tengiri fish, ensuring it is well-coated. Allow it to marinate for at least 15 minutes to let the flavors infuse.
  3. Prepare for Steaming:

    • Fill a steamer or large pot with water and bring it to a boil. This will help speed up the steaming process.
  4. Wrap and Steam:

    • Place the marinated fish pieces in a steamer basket lined with banana leaves, parchment paper, or simply place them directly in the steamer if you prefer.
    • Steam the fish for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and tender.
  5. Serving:

    • Once steamed, remove the fish from the steamer and serve hot. This dish pairs beautifully with steamed rice and a side of fresh vegetables.

Enjoy your Tengiri Pepes Special Asam Pedas—a delightful and flavorful Indonesian dish that’s sure to impress your taste buds!
