Savory Beef Siomay Dimsum Recipe 🍲

Ingredients

For the Siomay Filling:

  • 1 package (approximately 350 grams) of ready-to-use wonton wrappers
  • 350 grams ground beef
  • 2 stalks green onions, finely sliced
  • 5 tablespoons tapioca flour
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • Additional grated carrot for garnish

For the Dimsum Sauce:

  • 50 ml water
  • 2 tablespoons chili sauce
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • Vinegar to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meat Mixture:

    • Place the ground beef in a large mixing bowl. Add minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, white pepper powder, granulated sugar, and the egg. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
    • Incorporate the finely sliced green onions and a portion of grated carrot into the mixture, saving a small amount of the carrot for garnish. Stir until evenly mixed.
    • Gradually add the tapioca flour and all-purpose flour, mixing thoroughly until the mixture has a consistent texture. Adjust the salt according to your taste preference.
  2. Assemble the Siomay:

    • Take a wonton wrapper and, if desired, dampen the surface slightly with water using your fingers. This helps make the wrapper more pliable.
    • Spoon approximately one tablespoon of the beef filling onto the center of each wrapper. Gather the edges of the wrapper up around the filling and pinch them together to seal. You can also fold the corners outward or trim them for a neat appearance. Garnish the top with a bit of the reserved grated carrot.
    • Repeat the process until all the filling and wrappers are used.
  3. Steam the Siomay:

    • Bring water to a boil in a steamer over medium heat. Arrange the siomay in the steamer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded.
    • Steam for about 25 minutes, or until the siomay are fully cooked. Remove from the steamer and let them drain on a plate.
  4. Prepare the Dimsum Sauce:

    • In a small bowl, combine water, chili sauce, ketchup, and granulated sugar. Mix until the sugar is dissolved. Adjust the flavor with vinegar to taste.
  5. Serve and Enjoy:

    • Transfer the steamed siomay to a serving plate. Serve with the prepared dimsum sauce on the side.

Enjoy your homemade dimsum with a flavorful dipping sauce! 🍲☕🍵😍👍
