Japanese Beef Yakiniku Recipe
Ingredients:
- 500 grams of sirloin beef (trimmed of fat and sliced thinly against the grain)
- 1 large onion, sliced lengthwise
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced lengthwise
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced lengthwise
Marinade:
- 3 tablespoons mirin (or a small amount of vinegar as a substitute)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (can be reduced to taste)
- 4 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1/2 tablespoon miso paste (optional, can be omitted if unavailable)
- 1/4 apple, peeled and grated
- 1/4 to 1/2 onion, grated
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds, coarsely crushed
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Marinade:
In a mixing bowl, combine the mirin, honey, granulated sugar, soy sauce, and miso paste (if using). Add the grated apple, grated onion, minced garlic, and grated ginger to the mixture. Stir well until all ingredients are thoroughly blended. -
Marinate the Beef:
Place the sliced beef into the marinade, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or ideally overnight for the best flavor infusion. -
Cook the Vegetables:
Heat a sufficient amount of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the sliced bell peppers and cook until they are just tender but still crisp. Incorporate the sliced onion and continue cooking until the onion is slightly translucent. -
Cook the Beef:
Add the marinated beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Stir-fry until the beef is cooked to your desired level of doneness—whether medium-rare or well-done. Ensure the beef is cooked through and has a nice caramelization on the outside. -
Finish the Dish:
Once the beef is cooked, turn off the heat. Stir in the sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds for added flavor and texture. -
Serve:
Serve the Japanese Beef Yakiniku hot, accompanied by steamed white rice and a side of egg drop soup for a complete and satisfying meal.
Enjoy this flavorful Japanese beef dish that brings together tender beef and crisp vegetables, marinated to perfection and cooked with a deliciously savory sauce.
