Bombay Beef and Paprika (#pr_recookmantenelise)
Ingredients:
- 200 grams of thinly sliced beef (sirloin or similar cut)
- Marinade:
- 1 tablespoon Kikkoman soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 small onion, sliced lengthwise
- For Stir-Frying:
- 3/4 small onion, sliced lengthwise
- 2 large garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 thumb-sized piece of ginger, smashed
- 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- 1 teaspoon mushroom bouillon powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch, dissolved in 50 ml water
- 50 ml water
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced (optional for added color and flavor)
Instructions:
-
Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the Kikkoman soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, and ground black pepper. Add the thinly sliced beef and the quartered small onion. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
-
Prepare the Stir-Fry: Heat the coconut oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the sliced onion, minced garlic, and smashed ginger. Stir-fry until aromatic and the onions start to soften.
-
Cook the Beef: Add the marinated beef (along with the onions from the marinade) to the skillet. Stir-fry until the beef is browned and cooked through.
-
Add Vegetables: If using, add the sliced green bell pepper to the skillet. Stir-fry briefly until the bell pepper is tender-crisp.
-
Season and Thicken: Pour in the sweet soy sauce, mushroom bouillon powder, and fish sauce. Mix well to combine. Then, add the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch dissolved in water) to the skillet. Stir continuously until the sauce thickens and coats the beef evenly.
-
Finish and Serve: Once the sauce has thickened to your liking, remove the skillet from heat. Transfer the dish to a serving plate and serve hot.
