Oriental Beef Stir-Fry with Vegetables
Ingredients:
- 500 grams (1/2 kg) lean beef, cut into small pieces
- Broccoli, cabbage, or green beans (use what you have on hand; I used cabbage)
- 3 large green chilies, sliced
- For the spice paste:
- 5 cloves garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
- 5 red bird’s eye chilies (adjust to taste)
- 3 cm fresh ginger
- For the sauce:
- 5 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- Salt, to taste
- Sugar, to taste
- Vinegar, to taste
- Vegetable oil for sautéing
- Water, as needed
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Beef:
- Cut the lean beef into small, bite-sized pieces. Place the beef into a pot of boiling water. Ensure the water is boiling before adding the meat to prevent it from becoming tough.
- Boil the beef for about 2 hours, or until tender. Once tender, drain and set aside.
-
Prepare the Vegetables and Chilies:
- Slice the vegetables and green chilies thinly and set them aside for later use.
-
Make the Spice Paste:
- In a blender, combine garlic, ground coriander, red bird’s eye chilies, and fresh ginger. Blend until you achieve a smooth paste.
-
Cook the Spice Paste:
- Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the spice paste and sauté until it becomes fragrant and turns a light brown color.
-
Add Sauces and Beef:
- Stir in the ketchup and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well.
- Add the previously boiled beef into the skillet, stirring to coat the beef with the sauce mixture. Continue to cook until the beef is well incorporated with the sauce.
-
Incorporate Vegetables:
- Gradually add water as needed to adjust the sauce consistency. Then, add the sliced vegetables and green chilies to the skillet.
- Season with salt, sugar, and vinegar, adjusting the quantities to taste. Stir and cook until the vegetables are tender.
-
Serve:
- Once everything is well combined and cooked to your liking, remove from heat. Serve hot and enjoy your Oriental Beef Stir-Fry!
This vibrant and savory dish combines tender beef with a flavorful blend of spices and a tangy sauce, complemented by crisp vegetables. Perfect for a comforting meal that’s both satisfying and easy to prepare.
