Sapi Lada Hitam (Black Pepper Beef)

Ingredients

  • 350 grams of beef, thinly sliced into long strips
  • Water, as needed

Marinade Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 5 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon roasted sesame seeds
  • 1/2 tablespoon whole black peppercorns, coarsely crushed

Stir-fry Ingredients:

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, coarsely chopped

Additional Ingredients:

  • 1/2 tablespoon whole black peppercorns, coarsely crushed (can be increased according to taste)
  • 1 red bell pepper, coarsely chopped
  • 3 large green chilies, coarsely sliced into rounds
  • Salt, to taste
  • Olive oil, as needed
  • Roasted sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef:

    • Combine the beef with the marinade ingredients (oyster sauce, sweet soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, olive oil, roasted sesame seeds, and coarsely crushed black peppercorns).
    • Mix well to ensure the beef is evenly coated with the marinade.
    • Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.
  2. Prepare the Stir-fry:

    • Heat a sufficient amount of olive oil in a large pan or wok over medium heat.
    • Sauté the minced garlic and chopped onion until they become soft and fragrant.
  3. Cook the Beef:

    • Add the marinated beef to the pan. Stir-fry briefly until the beef starts to brown.
    • Pour in a small amount of water (approximately 75-100 ml) to help cook the beef through and create a slightly thickened sauce.
    • Continue cooking until the sauce thickens and the beef is tender.
  4. Add Vegetables and Final Seasoning:

    • Incorporate the coarsely chopped red bell pepper, sliced green chilies, and additional coarsely crushed black peppercorns into the pan.
    • Stir well to combine and cook until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
    • Taste the dish and add salt if necessary to enhance the flavor.
  5. Serve and Garnish:

    • Transfer the cooked beef and vegetables to a serving dish.
    • Garnish with roasted sesame seeds for an extra touch of flavor and texture.

Notes:

  • Adjust the amount of black pepper added at the end according to your spice preference. For a more pronounced heat, increase it to 1 tablespoon.
  • This recipe is kept mildly spicy, considering that children might be eating it, hence only 1/2 tablespoon of black pepper is used.

Enjoy this delightful and savory Black Pepper Beef, a perfect blend of rich flavors and aromatic spices, ideal for a family meal or a special gathering. Serve it with steamed rice or your favorite side dishes for a complete and satisfying experience.
