Gepuk Daging Sapi: A Savory Indonesian Beef Dish
Ingredients:
- 400 grams beef
- 8 shallots
- 4 garlic cloves
- 1 tablespoon toasted coriander seeds
- 5 fried candlenuts
- 1 thumb-sized piece of galangal
- 1 pack of packaged coconut milk
- 1 round of palm sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 pack of beef bouillon
- 1 teaspoon tamarind paste
- 700 milliliters water
- 500 milliliters vegetable oil (for frying)
Steps:
-
Prepare the Beef: Begin by boiling the beef until it is tender. Once cooked, drain and let it cool. After cooling, slice the beef against the grain to make it easier to chew. Use a fork to pierce the slices and gently pound them to tenderize.
-
Make the Spice Paste: Blend the shallots, garlic, galangal, candlenuts, and toasted coriander seeds until you achieve a smooth paste.
-
Cook the Spice Paste: Heat a little oil in a pan and sauté the spice paste until it becomes fragrant and golden brown.
-
Combine Ingredients: Add the sliced beef to the pan with the spice paste. Stir in the coconut milk and water, mixing well.
-
Season the Dish: Incorporate the palm sugar, tamarind paste, salt, and beef bouillon powder. Stir to combine and let the mixture simmer until most of the liquid has evaporated.
-
Fry the Beef: In a separate pan, heat the vegetable oil. Fry the beef slices, turning occasionally, until they are crispy and golden brown. Be careful not to overcook since the beef is already tender.
-
Serve: Remove the beef from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with steamed rice and a sprinkle of fried shallots on top. Enjoy your flavorful Indonesian Gepuk Daging Sapi!
Tips: For an extra burst of flavor, serve this dish with a side of sambal or pickled vegetables.
