Beef Yakiniku

Beef Yakiniku is a delicious Japanese-inspired dish that’s perfect for a quick and satisfying meal. This recipe combines tender beef with a savory sauce, vegetables, and aromatic spices. Here’s how you can recreate this flavorful dish:

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams beef (thinly sliced)
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 1 red bell pepper (or use 10 green chili peppers, coarsely chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (substitute with 1 packet of Saori Teriyaki sauce if preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon ground black pepper
  • Water (as needed)
  • Cornstarch (as needed for thickening)
  • Sugar and salt (to taste)
  • Cooking oil (for sautéing)
For the Spice Paste:
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 1.5 cm ginger

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef: Thinly slice the beef and clean it thoroughly.

  2. Make the Spice Paste: Blend the garlic and ginger until smooth.

  3. Sauté the Spice Paste: Heat some cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the spice paste and sauté until fragrant.

  4. Cook the Beef: Add the sliced beef to the pan. Stir well to coat the beef with the spice paste.

  5. Add Sauces and Spices: Pour in the teriyaki sauce, sweet soy sauce, and ground black pepper. Season with sugar and salt. Stir to combine.

  6. Add Water: Pour enough water into the pan to cover the beef. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to simmer. Cook until the liquid reduces and thickens. If the beef is still tough and the liquid has reduced too much, add a little more water and continue to cook until the beef is tender.

  7. Thicken the Sauce: To thicken the sauce, mix a small amount of cornstarch with water and stir it into the pan. Cook for a few minutes until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.

  8. Add Vegetables: Add the sliced onion and chopped bell pepper (or green chili peppers). Stir well and cook for an additional few minutes until the vegetables are slightly softened.

  9. Adjust Seasoning: Taste the dish and adjust seasoning with more sugar, salt, or pepper as needed.

  10. Serve: Once the beef is tender and the sauce is thickened, remove from heat. Serve hot with steamed rice or your favorite side dishes.

Enjoy your Beef Yakiniku, a savory and satisfying meal that’s sure to please your taste buds!
