Steamed Tofu with Chicken and Oyster Sauce
Ingredients:
- Japanese tofu (or use regular white tofu if unavailable), as needed
- 100 grams ground chicken
- Dried seaweed
- Ground pepper
- Salt
- Garlic, minced
- Soy sauce
- Oyster sauce
- Sesame oil
- Red chili peppers
- Cornstarch
- Water for steaming
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Seaweed: Begin by boiling the dried seaweed in water for about 5 minutes. Drain and set aside, but keep the soaking water.
-
Create the Sauce: In a pan, sauté the minced garlic until fragrant. Add the reserved seaweed water to the pan, then stir in ground pepper, soy sauce, and oyster sauce. Set the sauce aside.
-
Season the Chicken (Optional): Season the ground chicken with a pinch of ground pepper, salt, and sesame oil to taste. Skip this step if you prefer to keep the chicken plain.
-
Prepare the Tofu: Slice the tofu into pieces and arrange them in a steamer-proof dish. Lightly sprinkle cornstarch over the tofu to help it adhere better.
-
Assemble the Dish: Layer the seaweed over the tofu slices, followed by the ground chicken. Garnish with sliced red chili peppers for an extra touch of flavor.
-
Steam: Pour the reserved seaweed water over the tofu and chicken. Steam the dish for approximately 5 minutes, or until fully cooked.
-
Serve: Serve the dish warm and enjoy the delicate combination of tofu, chicken, and flavorful sauce.
Enjoy your meal!
