Ayam Goreng Mentega (Indonesian Butter Fried Chicken)
Ingredients:
For the Chicken Marinade:
- 500 grams chicken wings and drumlets
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Himalayan salt (or coarse salt)
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
For the Sauce:
- 1/4 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
- 100 grams salted butter
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon oyster sauce
- 2 teaspoons Tropicana Slim sweet soy sauce (or any sweet soy sauce)
- 1 green onion, chopped
- Ground black pepper, to taste
- Himalayan salt, to taste
- Olive oil, as needed
- Water, as needed
Instructions:
-
Marinate the Chicken:
Begin by cleaning the chicken thoroughly. In a mixing bowl, combine garlic powder, Himalayan salt, ground black pepper, and lemon juice. Add the chicken pieces to this mixture, ensuring they are well-coated. Cover the bowl and let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes to absorb the flavors. -
Fry the Chicken:
Heat a generous amount of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add a portion of salted butter to the skillet. Once the butter is melted and hot, place the marinated chicken in the skillet. Fry the chicken until it is golden brown and cooked through, about halfway through the cooking process. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside. -
Prepare the Butter Sauce:
In the same skillet, add a bit more butter if needed. Sauté the sliced onions and chopped garlic until they become translucent and fragrant. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, sweet soy sauce, oyster sauce, and a splash of water. Mix well to combine all the ingredients and create a rich, flavorful sauce. -
Combine Chicken with Sauce:
Return the fried chicken pieces to the skillet, ensuring they are well-coated with the sauce. Adjust the seasoning with additional salt and ground black pepper to taste. Continue to cook until the sauce thickens and reduces, coating the chicken pieces evenly. This should take a few minutes. -
Finish and Serve:
Sprinkle the chopped green onions over the chicken for a fresh touch. Once the sauce has thickened and the chicken is fully coated, remove from heat. Serve the Ayam Goreng Mentega hot, garnished with extra green onions if desired.
Enjoy this Indonesian Butter Fried Chicken as a delightful main dish that pairs wonderfully with steamed rice or as a flavorful addition to your next meal.
