Ayam Kecap Barbecue

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole chicken (can substitute with free-range chicken)
  • 1 large onion, sliced thinly
  • 3 cloves garlic, coarsely chopped
  • 5 tablespoons barbecue sauce (Del Monte brand preferred)
  • 5 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 300 ml water
  • 1 teaspoon flour, mixed with a little water
  • 2 tablespoons Palmia garlic margarine
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil (from frying the chicken)
  • Additional cooking oil for frying the chicken
  • Sufficient water for boiling the chicken

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Clean the chicken thoroughly. You can either massage it with salt and rinse it clean or briefly boil it before rinsing.

  2. Fry the Chicken: Heat some cooking oil in a pan. Fry the chicken until the skin is crispy and golden brown. Remove and drain excess oil.

  3. Sauté the Onions and Garlic: In the same pan, use the oil left from frying the chicken. Add the Palmia garlic margarine and sauté the onions until they are slightly softened. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant.

  4. Add Liquids and Sauces: Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Stir in the barbecue sauce and sweet soy sauce, mixing well.

  5. Simmer the Chicken: Return the fried chicken to the pan. Stir to coat the chicken with the sauce. Let it cook until the sauce is well absorbed by the chicken.

  6. Thicken the Sauce: Add the flour mixture to the pan and stir until the sauce thickens and starts to simmer again.

  7. Adjust Seasoning: Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning as needed. No additional salt may be necessary if the sauce is already to your taste.

  8. Serve: Once the sauce has thickened and the chicken is well coated, remove from heat and serve hot.
