Mung Tahu: A Delightful Stir-Fried Tofu and Chicken Dish

This Mung Tahu recipe is a simple yet flavorful dish combining the delicate texture of silken tofu with tender chicken, seasoned with a blend of spices and garnished with fresh green onions. Perfect for a quick weeknight meal or a comforting lunch, this recipe is both delicious and easy to prepare.

Ingredients:

  • 1 block of silken tofu (approximately 200 grams), cut into cubes
  • 200 grams chicken breast or thigh, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch, dissolved in a small amount of water
  • 1-2 green onions, chopped
  • 1-2 teaspoons mushroom seasoning (or to taste)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Sugar, to taste
  • Ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:
Begin by cutting the silken tofu into bite-sized cubes. Set aside. Chop the chicken into small pieces for even cooking.

  2. Sauté the Garlic:
Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large pan or wok over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant and golden brown, being careful not to burn it.

  3. Cook the Chicken:
Add the chopped chicken to the pan with the garlic. Stir-fry until the chicken changes color and is cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. Add Tofu and Seasonings:
Gently add the tofu cubes to the pan with the chicken. Season with mushroom seasoning, salt, sugar, and ground black pepper. Stir gently to combine and ensure the tofu is coated with the seasonings.

  5. Thicken the Sauce:
Pour in the dissolved cornstarch mixture and stir to incorporate. This will help thicken the sauce and give it a slightly glossy finish. If the mixture seems too thick, add a splash of water to reach your desired consistency.

  6. Add Green Onions:
Toss in the chopped green onions and stir well. Allow the dish to cook for another minute or two, just until the green onions are slightly wilted and the flavors have melded together.

  7. Serve:
Remove the pan from heat. Transfer the Mung Tahu to a serving dish and enjoy it hot. This dish pairs beautifully with steamed rice or as a stand-alone delight.

Tips:

  • Adjust the seasoning to suit your taste. If you prefer a spicier dish, consider adding a splash of soy sauce or a sprinkle of red pepper flakes.
  • For a variation, you can include other vegetables like bell peppers or snap peas for added crunch and color.

Enjoy your Mung Tahu, a satisfying dish that combines the creamy texture of tofu with the savory flavors of chicken and seasonings.
