Pepes Tahu Pedas Recipe

- 1-2 blocks of tofu

- 7 shallots
- 4 garlic cloves
- 5 red chilies
- 15 small chilies (adjust to taste)
- 3 candlenuts
- 2 cm shrimp paste
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- Salt to taste

- 4 kaffir lime leaves, finely sliced
- Banana leaves, as needed
Instructions:

Prepare the Spice Paste:
Begin by blending the shallots, garlic, red chilies, small chilies, candlenuts, shrimp paste, brown sugar, black pepper, and salt into a smooth paste. Add the finely sliced kaffir lime leaves to the spice paste and mix well. -
Prepare the Tofu:
Cut the tofu into small pieces, as desired. -
Assemble the Pepes Tahu:
Lay out the banana leaves and cut them into squares large enough to wrap around the tofu pieces. Place a portion of the spice paste on each piece of tofu and wrap them securely in the banana leaves. -
Steam the Tofu:
Arrange the wrapped tofu in a steamer. Steam over medium heat for approximately 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the tofu to absorb the spices. -
Serve:
Carefully unwrap the banana leaves and serve the Pepes Tahu Pedas hot. Enjoy as a flavorful side dish or as a main course with rice.
