Oseng Tahu Goreng (Brown Tofu Stir-Fry) with Cabbage

Ingredients:

  • 2 packs of brown tofu (fried)
  • 1/2 small cabbage
  • 10 red Thai chilies
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 4 shallots
  • Ground black pepper
  • Seasoning powder
  • Salt
  • Sweet soy sauce
  • Brown sugar

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Begin by washing the tofu thoroughly, then squeeze out excess moisture. Cut each block of tofu into three pieces.

  2. Fry the Tofu: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the tofu pieces until they are crispy and golden brown. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  3. Prepare the Cabbage: Slice the cabbage according to your preference; for a moderate texture, aim for medium-sized pieces. Wash and drain thoroughly.

  4. Prepare the Aromatics: Finely chop the red Thai chilies, garlic, and shallots.

  5. Cook the Aromatics: In the same pan used for frying tofu, add a bit more oil if needed. Sauté the chopped garlic, shallots, and chilies until they release their fragrant aroma.

  6. Combine Ingredients: Add the fried tofu back into the pan. Pour in about one cup of water. Season with salt, brown sugar, ground black pepper, and seasoning powder. Stir well to combine.

  7. Add the Cabbage: Incorporate the cabbage into the pan. Cook until the cabbage is tender and the water has mostly evaporated.

  8. Finish and Serve: Drizzle sweet soy sauce over the mixture, stir to blend the flavors, and adjust seasoning to taste. Allow the dish to cook for a few more minutes until everything is well combined and slightly thickened.
