Tahu Isi Sambal
Ingredients:
- 5 pieces of yellow tofu (tahu kuning)
- 1/2 packet all-purpose flour seasoning mix (tepung bumbu serbaguna)
- Water, as needed
- For the sambal:
- 25 small red chilies (cabe rawit setan/jablay)
- 2 shallots (bawang merah)
- 2 cloves garlic (bawang putih)
- 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar (optional)
- Salt and seasoning (totole), to taste
- Cooking oil, for frying

Instructions:
-
Prepare the Tofu: - Slice each piece of tofu into two thin parts. If you prefer thicker tofu, you can skip slicing it into halves. Next, make a slit in the middle of each piece, but do not cut all the way through.

-
Make the Sambal: - Blend the red chilies, shallots, and garlic until smooth. Adjust the taste with salt, sugar, and seasoning as desired.

-
Stuff the Tofu: - Carefully stuff each tofu pocket with the prepared sambal mixture. Ensure the sambal is evenly distributed inside the tofu.

-
Prepare the Batter: - Mix the all-purpose flour seasoning with enough water to create a batter. The batter should be thick enough to coat the tofu but not too runny.

-
Fry the Tofu: - Heat a sufficient amount of cooking oil in a pan. Dip each stuffed tofu piece into the batter, ensuring it is well-coated. Fry in the hot oil until the tofu is golden brown and crispy. Continue this process until all the tofu pieces are cooked.

-
Serve: - Remove the tofu from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot. The tofu is delicious even without additional sambal, but you can make sure to prepare a tasty sambal to enjoy alongside!

Enjoy your Tahu Isi Sambal, a perfect blend of crispy tofu and spicy sambal that’s sure to delight!
