Tahu Baso Ayam Recipe: Indonesian Chicken Tofu Balls
Ingredients:
For the Filling:
- 1/2 chicken breast (approximately 1/4 kg), filleted
- 1 egg
- 8-10 tablespoons tapioca flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced and fried
- 3 shallots, thinly sliced and fried
- 2 pieces silken tofu, cut into 12 pieces (or tofu of your choice), fried
- 1 stalk green onion, finely sliced
- Ice cubes
- Salt, ground pepper, sugar, and seasoning to taste
For the Coating:
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- Salt and seasoning to taste
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Filling:
- In a blender, combine the chicken breast, egg, fried shallots, fried garlic, baking powder, salt, sugar, seasoning, and a few ice cubes. Blend until smooth and well combined.
- Add the sliced green onions and tapioca flour to the mixture. Stir until thoroughly mixed. If the mixture is too thick, add a few more ice cubes to adjust the consistency.
-
Stuff the Tofu:
- Take the fried tofu pieces and stuff them with the chicken mixture. You can adjust the amount of filling according to your preference.
- Steam the stuffed tofu for about 15 minutes to cook the chicken filling through.
-
Prepare the Coating:
- In a bowl, whisk together the egg, cornstarch, salt, and seasoning.
- Dip the steamed tofu balls into the egg mixture, then fry them in hot oil until golden brown and crispy.
-
Alternative Method (Chicken Balls):
- Instead of stuffing tofu, you can form the chicken mixture into small balls using your hands or a spoon.
- Cook the balls in simmering water over low heat until they float to the surface. Remove and drain.
Serving Suggestions:
Serve the crispy tofu balls as a delicious appetizer or as part of a main course. They pair wonderfully with dipping sauces or alongside steamed rice.
Enjoy your homemade Tahu Baso Ayam, a delightful Indonesian treat perfect for any occasion!
