Tahu Kecap Recipe

Description: Tahu Kecap is a delightful Indonesian dish featuring fried tofu bathed in a savory soy sauce mixture, enhanced with aromatic spices and fresh vegetables. Perfect as a main or side dish, it combines the richness of tofu with the vibrant flavors of traditional ingredients.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
10 pieces Fried tofu
To taste Soy sauce (kecap)
7 cloves Shallots, thinly sliced
2 cloves Garlic, thinly sliced
1 large Red tomato, chopped
2 leaves Bay leaves (if available)
1 stalk Lemongrass (if available)
5-7 pieces Bird’s eye chilies, whole
1 tablespoon Sugar
To taste Bouillon powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Sauté Aromatics: In a pan, heat a bit of oil and sauté the sliced shallots, garlic, and lemongrass until fragrant and golden.

  2. Add Tomato and Tofu: Incorporate the chopped tomato into the pan, followed by the fried tofu. Gently mix to combine.

  3. Season: Drizzle the soy sauce over the mixture, adding bouillon powder and sugar as desired. Adjust the seasoning to taste.

  4. Incorporate Chilies: If you enjoy a bit of heat, add the whole bird’s eye chilies. Cook just long enough to keep the chilies vibrant and fresh, avoiding overcooking.

  5. Serve: This dish doesn’t require additional water, as the tofu and tomato release enough moisture. However, if you prefer a saucier dish, you can add a splash of water, remembering to adjust the seasonings accordingly.

  6. Enjoy: Serve hot, either as a standalone dish or with steamed rice.

This Tahu Kecap is an ultimate comfort food, bringing warmth and flavor to any table. Enjoy this culinary journey through Indonesian cuisine!
