Crispy Fried Tempe (Tempe Goreng Krispi)

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Tempe, sliced thin 1 block (approximately 150 g)
All-purpose flour 150 g
Tapioca or starch flour 2 tablespoons
Green onion (scallions), finely chopped 2 stalks
Water As needed
Spice blend (ground)
Coriander 1 tablespoon
Black pepper 1/4 teaspoon
Fresh turmeric 1 small piece
Candlenuts (kemiri) 2 nuts
Garlic 4 cloves
Salt To taste
Flavor enhancer (optional) To taste

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, tapioca flour, ground spice blend, and finely chopped green onion. Gradually add water, mixing until the batter reaches a consistency that is neither too runny nor too thick. Adjust seasoning with salt and flavor enhancer according to taste.

  2. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.

  3. Dip the thinly sliced tempe into the prepared batter, ensuring each piece is well-coated.

  4. Fry the battered tempe in the hot oil until golden brown and crispy, about 3-5 minutes, flipping occasionally for even cooking.

  5. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.

  6. Serve the crispy fried tempe hot, perfect as a snack or side dish!

Enjoy this delightful, crunchy treat that pairs wonderfully with your favorite dipping sauces or as a side to your meals!
