Instructions

  1. Prepare the Caramel: In a skillet, add a bit of sugar. As it begins to melt, gradually incorporate the entire cup of sugar. Stir continuously over medium heat until it forms a golden caramel. Carefully pour the caramel into a 24 cm mold (with a central hole) or another mold of your choice, ensuring an even coating on the bottom.

  2. Cool the Mold: Allow the caramel-coated mold to cool in a safe spot while you prepare the flan mixture.

  3. Make the Flan Mixture: In a mixing bowl, beat the manjar until smooth. Gradually add the eggs, the 1/2 cup of sugar, and the milk, mixing until well combined. When transferring the mixture to the prepared mold, use a strainer for a smooth texture.

  4. Set Up for Baking: Place the filled mold into a larger baking dish filled with cold water to create a bain-marie (water bath).

  5. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and bake the flan for approximately 1 hour, or until it is set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. Cool in Oven: For best results, turn off the oven and let the flan cool inside, which helps prevent cracking.

  7. Chill the Flan: Once the mold is completely cool, refrigerate it until you are ready to serve.
