Tempe Bacem (Sweet Braised Tempe)
Ingredients:
| Main Ingredients | Amount |
|---|---|
| Tempe (cut into slices or cubes) | 1 block (adjust to preference) |
| Spice Paste | Amount |
|---|---|
| Shallots | 5 cloves |
| Garlic | 5 cloves |
| Candlenuts | 2 pieces |
| Coriander | 1 tsp |
| Additional Ingredients | Amount |
|---|---|
| Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis) | 1 tbsp |
| Brown sugar | 1 tbsp |
| Water | As needed |
| Salt | To taste |
| Seasoning (optional) | As preferred |
Instructions:
-
Prepare the spice paste: Start by blending or grinding the shallots, garlic, candlenuts, and coriander until it forms a smooth paste.
-
Cook the spice paste: In a pan, heat a small amount of oil and sauté the spice paste until it releases a fragrant aroma, about 2-3 minutes.
-
Add the tempeh: Once the spice paste is fragrant, add the tempeh pieces to the pan. Stir well to coat them with the spices.
-
Simmer: Pour in the water, sweet soy sauce (kecap manis), brown sugar, salt, and optional seasoning (if desired). Stir everything together and let the tempeh simmer on medium heat.
-
Cook until tender: Continue cooking until the liquid reduces and the tempeh absorbs the sweet, savory flavors. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
-
Serve: Once the liquid has almost evaporated and the tempeh has a caramelized finish, remove from heat. Serve hot with rice or as a side dish.
Enjoy your delicious Tempe Bacem, a flavorful and comforting Indonesian dish!
