Tempe Meatballs (Bakso Tempe)

Ingredients:

Tempe 1/2 block (about 100g)
Egg 1 whole
Tapioca flour 5 tablespoons
All-purpose flour 2 tablespoons
Seasoning powder 1 packet (Royco or any seasoning of your choice)
Water As needed

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tempe
    Begin by cutting the tempe into small pieces for easier cooking. Boil the tempe in a pot of water for about 10 minutes until softened. Once fully cooked, drain the tempe and mash it into a smooth paste using a fork or food processor.

  2. Mix the Ingredients
    Transfer the mashed tempe to a large mixing bowl. Add the egg and seasoning powder, and stir well to combine. Slowly add just enough water to create a smooth consistency.

  3. Incorporate the Flours
    Gradually add the all-purpose flour and mix well, ensuring no lumps are formed. Follow by adding the tapioca flour and continue mixing until all ingredients are well combined, forming a smooth dough.

  4. Shape the Meatballs
    Bring a pot of water to a boil. While waiting, shape the tempe mixture into small, round balls using your hands or a spoon.

  5. Cook the Meatballs
    Carefully drop the tempe balls into the boiling water. Let them cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface, which indicates they are done. Remove the meatballs with a slotted spoon and set aside.

  6. Prepare the Soup (Optional)
