Tempeh Orek Recipe

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Tempeh 1 block (approximately 250g)
Shallots 5 pieces
Garlic 2 cloves
Red chilies 7 pieces
Chicken bouillon powder (Masako) 1 packet
Palm sugar To taste
Salt To taste
Sweet soy sauce To taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tempeh:

    • Slice the tempeh into long, thin strips. Fry until crispy and golden brown, then set aside.
  2. Sauté the Aromatics:

    • Slice the shallots, garlic, and red chilies thinly.
    • Heat a little oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced shallots, garlic, and chilies, and sauté until fragrant and slightly softened.
  3. Season the Dish:

    • Once the aromatics are cooked, add the palm sugar, salt, and chicken bouillon powder (Masako) into the pan. Stir everything together until well combined.
  4. Combine Tempeh:

    • Add the fried tempeh strips to the pan, then drizzle with sweet soy sauce.
    • Stir the mixture until all the tempeh is evenly coated with the sauce and spices. Continue stirring for a few minutes until the flavors meld and the tempeh is fully absorbed in the sauce.
  5. Taste and Finish:

    • Taste the dish and adjust seasoning as needed—adding more soy sauce, salt, or sugar to achieve your preferred flavor.
  6. Serve:

    • Your Tempeh Orek is ready to serve! Enjoy this delicious Indonesian side dish with steamed rice or as a flavorful snack.

Bon appétit! 😊
