Ingredients

Tempe 1/4 block, cut into small pieces
Garlic 4 cloves, thinly sliced
Shallots 3 cloves, sliced
Sambal Terasi (optional) 1 tablespoon
Cooking Oil As needed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tempe: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry the cut tempe pieces until they are golden and crispy. Drain and set aside.

  2. Sauté the Aromatics: Reduce the oil in the skillet, leaving about 5 tablespoons. Add the sliced garlic and fry until golden brown, then remove from the skillet.

  3. Cook the Shallots: In the same skillet, add the sliced shallots and sauté until they become translucent. If using, stir in the sambal terasi and cook until fragrant.

  4. Combine with Tempe: Return the fried tempe to the skillet, mixing well with the shallots.

  5. Add the Seasoning: In a small bowl, mix all the seasoning ingredients until dissolved. Pour in the mixture gradually, adding about a teaspoon at a time, stirring well after each addition until fully combined.

  6. Finish with Garlic: Finally, add the fried garlic back into the skillet and mix everything thoroughly.
