Simple Tempe Oseng (Stir-Fried Tempe in Sauce)

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Tempe 1 small block, diced
Red onion 2 cloves, sliced
Garlic 2 cloves, minced
Bay leaves 2 leaves
Ripe tomato 1, chopped
Water to taste
Salt to taste
Mushroom seasoning to taste
Cooking oil for sautéing

Instructions

  1. Begin by heating a generous amount of cooking oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced red onion and minced garlic, sautéing them until they release a fragrant aroma, about 2-3 minutes.

  2. Once fragrant, pour in enough water to create a light broth, then gently add the diced tempe. Season with salt and mushroom seasoning to enhance the umami flavor.

  3. Introduce the bay leaves to the mixture, allowing the flavors to meld together. Bring the broth to a boil, ensuring the tempe absorbs the delicious essence.

  4. When the broth reaches a rolling boil, add the chopped ripe tomato. Allow everything to simmer for a brief period, just long enough for the tomato to soften slightly, approximately 2-3 minutes.

  5. Once done, remove from heat and serve hot, either on its own or as a delightful accompaniment to steamed rice.

Enjoy this simple yet flavorful dish that showcases the nutty goodness of tempe!
