Instructions

  1. Prepare the Moong Dal: Begin by washing and boiling the yellow moong dal in 1 cup of water using a pressure cooker for about 2 whistles. Once cooked, allow it to cool and then mash it lightly. Set aside.

  2. Make the Rice Flour Dumplings: In a saucepan, heat 1 cup of water and add 3 tablespoons of jaggery. Bring the mixture to a boil. Gradually add the rice flour while whisking continuously until it forms a smooth lump. Once done, turn off the flame and allow the mixture to cool slightly. Knead it into a soft dough and roll it into small balls.

  3. Prepare the Jaggery Syrup: In another saucepan, heat 1/2 cup of water and 3/4 cup of jaggery over medium heat. Stir until the jaggery completely dissolves.

  4. Combine Ingredients: Add the boiled and mashed moong dal to the jaggery syrup. Mix well, adding enough water to achieve a smooth consistency. Simmer this mixture for about 3 minutes.

  5. Cook the Dumplings: Add the rice flour dumplings to the simmering mixture. Let them cook for 5 to 7 minutes, ensuring the dumplings are thoroughly cooked.

  6. Final Touches: Pour in 1 cup of milk and add 1 teaspoon of cardamom powder. Mix well and allow it to simmer for an additional 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and carefully stir in 1/2 cup of coconut milk to prevent curdling.

  7. Add Cashews: In a small pan, heat 1 tablespoon of ghee. Add the cashew nuts and fry them until they turn golden brown. Add the fried cashews to the Pappulo Undrallu and stir to combine.

  8. Serve: Enjoy your Pappulo Undrallu warm, served alongside Spicy Sweet Corn & Oat Fritters for a delightful festive meal.
