Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 8 minutes
Total Time: 28 minutes
Servings: 4
Cuisine: Indian
Course: Appetizer
Diet: Non-Vegetarian

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Shrimps (large, deveined and shelled) 400 grams
Butter (or oil) 1 tablespoon
Orange food color (optional) 3-4 drops
Soy sauce 1 teaspoon
Lemon juice 1 teaspoon
Honey 2 tablespoons
Tabasco hot sauce 1 tablespoon
Black pepper powder 1 teaspoon
Garlic (minced or grated) 1 teaspoon
Ginger (minced or grated) ½ teaspoon
Fresh thyme leaves (or dried) To taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shrimp:
Begin by deveining and de-shelling the shrimp. You may choose to leave the tail on for presentation if desired.

  2. Marinate the Shrimp:
In a small mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, lemon juice, honey, Tabasco hot sauce, black pepper powder, garlic, and ginger to create a flavorful marinade. Add the cleaned shrimp to the bowl and mix well, ensuring the shrimp are fully coated. Allow the shrimp to marinate for 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  3. Optional Step for Color:
If you prefer a vibrant orange hue, add 3-4 drops of orange food coloring to the marinated shrimp and mix thoroughly. This step is entirely optional but adds a beautiful touch to the dish.

  4. Cook the Shrimp:
Heat a skillet over medium heat and add 1/2 tablespoon of butter. Allow the butter to melt and begin to bubble. Once the butter has melted, remove the shrimp from the marinade and place them in the skillet, ensuring not to overcrowd. If necessary, cook the shrimp in two batches to ensure even frying.

  5. Fry the Shrimp:
Fry the shrimp on one side for about 2 minutes, allowing them to become golden and slightly crispy. Flip the shrimp and fry on the other side for an additional 2 minutes, until the shrimp are cooked through and nicely browned. Once cooked, remove the shrimp from the skillet and set them aside on a plate. Repeat the process for the second batch if necessary.

  6. Finish the Dish:
Once all the shrimp are cooked, return them to the skillet. Drizzle the reserved marinade over the shrimp and toss to coat evenly. Allow the shrimp to soak up the sauce and heat through for a minute or two.

  7. Serve:
Transfer the savory shrimp to a serving platter. This dish is best enjoyed immediately. Serve alongside other starters such as Egg Shoap and Mushrooms on Toast to create a delightful spread for your guests.

Pro Tip:
For an extra burst of flavor, garnish the dish with fresh thyme leaves or a squeeze of lemon just before serving. Pair with a chilled drink for a refreshing experience!

Enjoy this rich and flavorful savory shrimp dish, perfect as a tantalizing appetizer at your next dinner gathering. Its aromatic spices and subtle heat make it an ideal choice for anyone looking to add a bit of zest to their meal.
