Instructions

  1. Prepare the Coffee
Start by preparing a strong cup of coffee using your moka pot. The coffee should be bold, as it will infuse the panna cotta with a rich flavor. Set the coffee aside to cool slightly.

  2. Soften the Gelatin
In a small bowl, submerge the gelatin sheets in cold water to let them soften. Allow them to sit for about 10-15 minutes. This step is crucial for ensuring a smooth, set texture in your panna cotta.

  3. Cook the Cream and Vanilla
In a medium saucepan, pour in the fresh cream and add the sugar. Slice the vanilla bean in half lengthwise, scrape out the seeds, and add both the seeds and the pod to the cream mixture. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir occasionally until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is just about to simmer. Do not let it boil. Once it reaches this point, remove it from the heat.

  4. Incorporate the Gelatin
Squeeze the excess water from the softened gelatin sheets and add them to the hot cream mixture. Stir well until the gelatin has completely dissolved. This will ensure the panna cotta sets perfectly when chilled.

  5. Add Coffee to the Cream Mixture
Pour in the 150 ml of brewed coffee into the cream mixture. Stir to combine everything well, ensuring the coffee is evenly distributed throughout the cream.

  6. Chill the Panna Cotta
Pour the mixture into individual serving molds or glasses. Let them cool to room temperature before transferring them to the refrigerator. Chill for at least 3-4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the panna cotta to fully set.

  7. Prepare the Chocolate Coffee Sauce
While the panna cotta is chilling, prepare the chocolate sauce. Break the dark chocolate into small pieces and melt it in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method) or in the microwave in short intervals, stirring frequently. Once melted, add the 80 ml of hot brewed coffee and stir until the sauce is smooth and glossy. Set aside to cool slightly.

  8. Unmold and Serve
Once the panna cotta is set, it’s time to unmold. To do this, dip the outside of the molds in hot water for about a second to loosen the panna cotta. Invert the molds onto serving plates and gently pull them away to reveal the creamy dessert. If the panna cotta sticks, you can carefully run a knife along the edges to break the vacuum seal.

  9. Top with Chocolate Sauce
Drizzle the chocolate coffee sauce over the panna cotta and garnish with chocolate-covered coffee beans, if desired. The combination of the creamy texture and the rich coffee-chocolate flavor will create an irresistible dessert experience.

  10. Serve and Enjoy
Serve immediately while the panna cotta is still chilled and the chocolate sauce is slightly warm. Your guests will love the balance of flavors in this luxurious, indulgent treat.

Tips for Perfect Coffee Panna Cotta

  • Gelatin: Be sure to fully dissolve the gelatin in the warm cream mixture to avoid any lumps in your panna cotta.
  • Coffee: For the best flavor, use freshly brewed coffee from a strong blend. The coffee flavor should shine through without overpowering the creamy base.
  • Chilling Time: Patience is key—ensure that the panna cotta sets in the fridge for several hours to achieve its signature creamy texture.
  • Chocolate Sauce: For an extra touch of elegance, consider garnishing with whipped cream or extra chocolate shavings.

This Coffee Panna Cotta with Chocolate Sauce is a sophisticated dessert that will bring a touch of elegance to any occasion. Its creamy texture, combined with the bold flavor of coffee and the richness of chocolate, makes it a must-try for coffee lovers. Whether for a dinner party or a quiet evening at home, it’s a dessert that promises to satisfy and delight.
